Display technology allows manufacturers, systems integrators, and operators to substantially reduce costs while noticeably improving image quality.
MONTREAL, CANADA – September 11, 2024 – Faurecia IRYStec, a pioneer in perceptual display image processing, today announced the launch of GreenHDR, a display technology which allows manufacturers, systems integrators, and display operators to substantially reduce both the manufacturing and operating costs of displays, while providing a dramatic improvement in image quality, especially in challenging ambient lighting conditions.
GreenHDR – available as an IC, FPGA IP core, and as a software library – has been shown to reduce power consumption by 20-30%, and to increase the dynamic contrast ratio by an average of 80%. This significant improvement in performance will allow display manufacturers to reduce the number of backlight zones needed by 50% or more, while simultaneously improving image quality. It will allow operators of these displays to benefit from reduced power consumption, which – for large-sized advertising displays used in shopping malls, office complexes, and airports – can yield an operational cost savings of approximately $100 USD per year per display.
GreenHDR includes the company’s widely-deployed Smart Dimming technology, which further enhances the display of images and video to compensate for challenging ambient lighting conditions, most notably when the display is in bright sunlight.
“GreenHDR is a vital technology for companies looking for new ways to differentiate their products from their competitors’, especially those serving markets seeking innovative, cost-effective, and eco-friendly displays,” said Jean Lorchat, General Manager of Faurecia IRYStec. “We are proud to build upon our past successes in providing perceptual display enhancements for edge-lit displays to providing new technologies for full-array local dimming displays”.
John Phillips – Director of Product for Faurecia IRYStec – will present benchmark test results at the Society of Information Display Vehicle Displays and Interfaces Symposium and Expo today at 2:20pm as part of the official conference proceedings. The paper and presentation can be found at www.irystec.com/greenhdr.
GreenHDR will be commercially available in early 2025 as an ASIC, as an FPGA IP core, and as a software library.
